What does “the very hairs of your head are all numbered” really mean?

“Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” (Luke 12:7)

What does “the very hairs of your head are all numbered” really mean? Initially the thought that came to mind was “God is the most powerful in the universe”, otherwise how would He know how many hairs we have? We who know our bodies best don’t even know!

Then I got to know Him better, going deeper into the Word, this saying extended from head knowledge to a heartfelt experience of God’s love. His love is so great that He would count every one of our hairs.

This morning I did one of the things that I do every morning: combing my hair (Proverbs 16:31). When strands of hair would fall off with every comb I realized the deeper meaning of this saying. He said, “Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” When I don’t even know how many hairs I have lost, or how many have grown (I guess I don’t even know where to start), He can tell us how many hairs we have at any given time. Is this not His presence with us at all times? How sweet is this intimate relationship!

“Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” Heavenly Father, I love you, but never as much as You love me.

“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Joshua 1:5)

I learnt a Hebrew word: Yada. It means to know and be intimate. I hope that everyone can come to know their hair as a symbol of God’s intimacy with us.
